Telling the Hospital Story: Providence St. Patrick Hospital and University of Montana partner in transformative research initiative to advance rural health care

Providence, one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit health systems, has partnered with Missoula’s Providence St. Patrick Hospital and the University of Montana to launch RESOLVE, a groundbreaking rural health collaborative. This initiative aims to improve access and outcomes for rural and Indigenous communities by combining clinical expertise, research infrastructure, and community engagement.

Unlike traditional approaches that retrofit urban solutions for rural areas, RESOLVE is designed from the ground up to address the unique challenges of rural health care through joint governance, shared data systems, and a unified operating model.

By embedding research into care delivery, RESOLVE ensures that strategies are locally relevant and sustainable. Leaders from both organizations aim to translate cutting-edge clinical ideas into practical solutions that can scale across rural regions.

RESOLVE has already launched early projects focused on cardiovascular health, cancer rehabilitation, air quality, and emergency response to extreme weather. The initiative aspires to become self-sustaining by 2026 through industry and government funding, serving as a blueprint for rural health innovation nationwide.
