In 2022, more than 1 in 6 Americans 12 or older reported experiencing a substance use disorder, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A SUD is a treatable, chronic disease that affects brain function and behavior. People with SUD may be aware of their problem but unable to stop even if they want and try to.

The York Hospital Recovery Center offers outpatient treatment for people experiencing SUD. Rapid access is a priority to ensure people are connected to trained staff and receive assessment and appropriate resources.

The York Hospital website shares success stories from people who received treatment at the center: A high school student, who had been an outstanding athlete before experiencing mental health issues, using drugs and overdosing three times, has been sober for many years. A woman from a well-to-do family began using alcohol heavily and blacking out, eventually losing her home, marriage, family and job before receiving treatment at the Recovery Center; she is now sober and happy. A man who had turned to alcohol and drugs as a way to disconnect found hope again after treatment at the center.

The team of licensed counselors, clinicians and recovery coaches at the York Hospital Recovery Center works with patients to develop an individualized plan of care including one-on-one sessions, group intensive outpatient program, medication-assisted treatment, life/coping skills and more.
