Cultural Competence in Health Care

Hospitals and health systems are focusing on cultural competence to create an environment and workforce that delivers the highest quality care to every patient regardless of race, ethnicity, culture, or language proficiency. In a recent HPOE webinar, the 2015 AHA Equity of Care Award finalists shared their work focusing on cultural competence to eliminate health care disparities. The finalists, AnMed Health and Rush University Medical Center, have demonstrated a high level of success in becoming culturally competent--working to understand their communities and provide individualized care to all patients. This webinar was presented in collaboration with the AHA's Institute for Diversity in Health Management and the Equity of Care initiative.
