Redrawing the lines on CLABSI: Shifting the focus to CABSI
A Hospital’s Move to Monitor All Line Types
Wednesday, October 1, 2025
1 - 2 p.m. Eastern; noon - 1 p.m. Central; 10 - 11 a.m. Pacific
Catheter-Associated Bloodstream Infections (CABSI) are gaining attention as hospitals look beyond central lines to address infection risks tied to all vascular access devices. As a subset of the broader Hospital-Onset Bacteremia and Fungemia (HOB) framework, CABSI offers an opportunity to strengthen patient safety efforts, improve quality metrics and reduce costs associated with preventable complications.
This webinar will feature a real-world hospital case study where surveillance was expanded to include peripheral intravenous (PIV) catheters alongside central lines. The result: improved infection prevention, more targeted interventions and reduced bloodstream infection rates. Participants will learn how this broader approach to CABSI monitoring aligns with evolving quality reporting and supports systemwide goals around safety, accountability and operational efficiency.
Attendees Will Learn to:
- Describe the limitations of traditional central line-focused surveillance and explain the rationale for expanding CABSI monitoring to include all vascular access devices.
- Analyze the clinical and economic impact of comprehensive bloodstream infection surveillance through a real-world hospital case study.
- Identify best practices and operational strategies for implementing all-line monitoring to reduce catheter-associated bloodstream infections.
- Discuss the leadership, infrastructure and cross-functional collaboration needed to support and sustain expanded CABSI surveillance.
