Health isn’t created by doctors and nurses, but by friendships and families … by good air, food, houses, roads and jobs … by good churches and schools. Because improving health means going beyond hospitals and physicians’ offices, the AHA-affiliated Association for Community Health Improvement (ACHI) provides a resource for people who are building healthier communities across the country.

ACHI’s national conference takes place this week in Denver. Hundreds of community health, community benefit, population health and healthy community professionals will gather there to learn from health experts and exchange ideas.

As hospitals and health systems increasingly pursue population health management strategies to improve the health of vulnerable people and communities, ACHI’s work is more important than ever.

ACHI members understand that community health requires a continuous commitment to collaborating with others in identifying and addressing the unique barriers of health that exist in every community. They know what it takes to improve not just health, but the quality of people’s lives.
