The Kansas House of Representatives today failed by three votes to override the governor’s veto of legislation to expand Medicaid eligibility to low-income uninsured adults. The Kanas Hospital Association supported the bill, which called for the state to submit a waiver request to the federal Department of Health and Human Services to implement the Bridge to a Healthy Kansas program by Jan. 1, 2018. “Clearly, the data shows that this legislation could have helped, not hurt, the state’s budget situation,” KHA said. “Advocates will continue to work on a Kansas solution as our state is currently on the wrong side of this equation; Kansas is at both an economic and competitive disadvantage.”
