CMS predicts qualifying status for Advanced APM participants
Nearly 100% of clinicians who participated in Advanced Alternative Payment Models in 2016 would qualify for a 2019 incentive payment if they participate in 2017, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services said Friday in an email update. Eligible clinicians who participate in at least one Advanced APM in 2017 and receive 25% of their Medicare payments or 20% of their Medicare patients through Advanced APMs can earn a 5% incentive payment in 2019 under the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act. CMS analyzed 2016 administrative claims to predict 2017 qualifying status. Actual 2017 qualifying status will be based on claims at three points in time: March 31, June 30 and Aug. 31.
