Hospitals and health systems lose 600 jobs in March

Hospitals and health systems lost 600 jobs in March, as U.S. jobs overall increased by 916,000, according to preliminary data released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. It is the third consecutive month of hospital job losses. 

Hospitals and health systems have added over 28,000 jobs since the beginning of the pandemic, but remain below their February 2020 peak. Outpatient care centers, physicians, dentists and other office-based providers continued to add jobs in March, while nursing and residential care facilities shed about 3,200. The health care field overall added 11,500 jobs to remain just under 16 million total (seasonally adjusted).
