Case study: Safely and effectively reducing C-section rates
Sutter Health’s Pregnancy & Childbirth Services improved maternal health outcomes by reducing first-birth C-section rates, engaging mothers and their families through the process. In the program's first two and a half years, C-section rates in Sutter’s Alta Bates Summit Medical Center declined from 25% (close to the national average) to 18%, which the health system credits to its “community of improvement” and culture of teamwork.
