The average annual premium for employer-sponsored family health coverage rose 1.1% in the first part of this year to $22,463, including employer and worker contributions, according to the latest annual survey of employer-sponsored health insurance by the Kaiser Family Foundation. The average annual premium for single coverage increased 2.2% to $7,911.

“Premiums, contributions, and cost-sharing amounts are similar to those seen in 2021,” the authors note. “This may seem to be at odds with the high rates of inflation and wage growth seen in 2022, but it is important to remember that many of these plan attributes were likely decided in the late summer and fall of 2021, when inflation was lower and concerns about higher inflation rates were just starting to take hold.”

About 88% of covered workers in 2022 have a general annual deductible for single coverage, which averaged $1,763, similar to last year but 61% more than a decade ago. According to the survey, average family premiums have increased 43% since 2012.
