Role of Hospitals: Doctors Medical Center of Modesto

Black mother cradles her newborn baby

National Reading Month, recognized each March, is an opportunity to encourage reading and its many proven benefits across all ages. For staff at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, Calif., it was also a chance to celebrate the occasion with their youngest — and newest — patients.

Hospital officials recently announced that every baby born at the hospital throughout the month of March would be gifted the baby book “Welcome Little One” by Sandra Magsamen. In addition to adding to or starting a baby book library for each child, staff hoped the initiative would inspire a love of reading from a young age.
