Some people who were unable to enroll in 2016 coverage through the federally-facilitated Health Insurance Marketplace due to failure to reconcile their 2014 advance premium tax credit may be eligible for a special enrollment period, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced Friday. To be eligible for the special enrollment period, which runs through March 31, individuals must not be currently enrolled in 2016 coverage through the federally-facilitated Marketplace and must have been denied advance payment of the premium tax credit because they failed to file a 2014 federal tax return and reconcile their 2014 advance premium tax credit before the end of open enrollment. In addition, they must have since filed their 2014 tax return and reconciled the 2014 advance payment.
