New college mascot encourages future health care leaders

Telling the Hospital Story: New college mascot encourages future health care leaders. Baptist Health College Little Rock students pose with mascot

Baptist Health College Little Rock (BHCLR) recently roared into a new era with the unveiling of its first-ever mascot, Bo the Lion. The event marked a historic moment for the 104-year-old institution, complete with cake, Dippin’ Dots and appearances from other mascots. Bo, short for Boaz, is known for his strength, compassion and leadership — qualities BHCLR hopes to instill in its students to become leaders in the health care workforce. “Bo represents the courage our students show every day as they pursue their dreams,” said Troy Wells, president and CEO of Baptist Health.

The creation of Bo was a year-long endeavor, largely led by the late Joel Hicks, Ed.D., former president of BHCLR, whose vision was to foster deeper student engagement. “We are honored to continue his legacy,” Wells added, reflecting on Hicks’ commitment to building a lasting symbol of unity and pride. Bo will now be a regular presence at student events like welcome day, family night and recruiting activities.
