Six out of ten hospitals nationally are seeing a greater proportion of patients without insurance coming through their emergency departments and nearly half have reduced staff according to a March 2009 survey of hospitals.
The IRS released a final report on its 2006 survey of not-for-profit hospitals, which found the nearly 500 hospitals surveyed dedicated an average of 9% of total revenues to community benefit. The survey also examined executive compensation practices.
