House committee advances bill to repeal nursing home staffing ratios

The House Ways and Means Committee March 6 voted 26-17 to advance as amended to the full House the Protecting America’s Seniors’ Access to Care (H.R. 7513), AHA-supported legislation that would prohibit the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services from finalizing a proposed rule on minimum staffing for long-term care facilities.

America’s Hospitals, Nursing Homes Send Joint Letter To CMS Urging Against Unfunded Staffing Mandates

The American Hospital Association (AHA) and the American Health Care Association (AHCA), the largest associations representing America’s hospitals and nursing homes, respectively, sent a joint letter today to Chiquita Brooks-LaSure, Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), outlining concerns with a federal staffing mandate for nursing homes. CMS is planning to issue a federal staffing minimum for nursing homes this year.
