Among Americans with employer-sponsored health insurance, per capita spending on health care for people with diabetes grew more for children than for any other age group in 2012 (7%) and 2013 (9.6%), according to a report released today by the Health Care Cost Institute. Average per capita health care spending for people with employer-sponsored coverage and diabetes was about $15,000 in 2013, about 3.5 times more than for people without diabetes. According to the report, the rise in spending for children with diabetes was partly due to higher spending on branded insulin.
