About 12.7 million Americans selected a 2016 health plan during open enrollment in the Health Insurance Marketplaces, the Department of Health and Human Services reported yesterday. The total includes more than 9.6 million who enrolled through HealthCare.gov and 3.1 million through state-based marketplaces. About 42% of HealthCare.gov consumers were new. The update also provides the number of HealthCare.gov plan selections by state and market area. Open enrollment for 2016 ended Jan. 31. HHS plans to issue a more detailed report that looks at plan selections across all states.
