An estimated 2.5 million Americans who buy individual market coverage outside of the Health Insurance Marketplace might qualify for tax credits if they purchased coverage through the Marketplace, the Department of Health and Human Services estimated yesterday. That’s about 36% of off-Marketplace consumers. Nearly half of them have incomes that may also qualify them for help with deductibles and other out-of-pocket costs, HHS said. Tax credits are not available for coverage purchased outside the Marketplace.
