AHA supports Murthy for surgeon general
The AHA today voiced support for Vivek Murthy, M.D., to serve as United States surgeon general for a second time.
“Dr. Murthy is a well-respected internal medicine specialist with decades of public health experience,” AHA said in a letter to leaders of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor & Pensions and Committee on Finance. “As the U.S. Surgeon General from 2014 to 2017, Dr. Murthy demonstrated strong public health expertise, including helping to lead the response to Ebola, Zika and the opioid crisis. He is a trusted voice and will be a valuable communicator with the American people.”
Before becoming surgeon general in 2014, Murthy was a faculty member at Harvard Medical School and a hospitalist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
