GE Healthcare is recalling 4,222 backup batteries for its CARESCAPE R860 ventilator in the United States because the batteries may fail before expected, which could cause ventilation to stop if the ventilator is running on battery power only. The Food and Drug Administration has identified this as a Class 1 recall due to the potential for serious injury or death.
