More than 1,000 executive leaders from the nation’s top hospitals and health systems convened at the 2023 AHA Annual Membership Meeting, April 23-25 in Washington, D.C.

The array of global threats and challenges are myriad, retired Navy Adm. James Stavridis told hospital and health system leaders, noting that future pandemics, coupled with climate change, must be counted as serious concerns.

“This, I think, needs to be understood as part of our security challenges just as surely as the geopolitical challenges are,” Stavridis said.

Stavridis called for using innovation to address such challenges, in concert with collaboration, team building, finding the right leaders and communication.
