AHA Immediate Past Chair John Haupert, president and CEO of Grady Health System in Atlanta, opened the afternoon plenary session during the second day of the Summit discussing how health care has faced extraordinary change and will continue to transform through innovation. “Sometimes the pace of iterative change isn’t enough,” Haupert said. “Sometimes what your organizations need, what your patients need, what your communities need is change that upends the status quo, opens up entirely new ways of thinking, and sets us on a new and better trajectory. That’s transformative change.”

Following Haupert’s remarks, a panel of future-forward thought leaders discussed the health care delivery system of the future and the incremental and transformative changes needed to get there. Moderated by Geoff Bennett, PBS NewsHour co-anchor, panelists Tina Freese Decker, president and CEO of Corewell Health and AHA chair-elect; Jaewon Ryu, M.D., CEO of Risant Health; and Lisa Shannon, president and CEO of Allina Health, discussed innovative approaches to expanding access, improving outcomes and reducing disparities while ensuring the financial viability of their hospitals and health systems.
