ONC finalizes principles, agreement for trusted health information exchange

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology today released its first final Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement, a set of non-binding principles and governance approach for health information exchange required by the 21st Century Cures Act of 2016. ONC also released a Health Level Seven Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resource Roadmap, which it said outlines how the TEFCA will accelerate the adoption of FHIR-based exchange.
The Sequoia Project, the coordinating entity for the TEFCA, will host a series of upcoming webinars on the TEFCA for entities interested in applying for designation as a Qualified Health Information Network to begin exchanging health information under the TEFCA with other networks later this year.
ONC previously released two drafts of the TEFCA, which AHA commented on in 2019.
