Jeanette Clough to Receive 2019 AHA Board of Trustees Award

WASHINGTON, DC (March 26, 2019) – The American Hospital Association today announced that Jeanette Clough, president and CEO of Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Mass., will be awarded its 2019 Board of Trustees Award. The award is presented to individuals or groups who have made substantial and noteworthy contributions to the work of the AHA. Clough will receive the award during a ceremony at the AHA Annual Membership Meeting on Monday, April 8, in Washington, DC.


Clough has been the president and CEO of Mount Auburn Hospital, which is a teaching hospital affiliate of Harvard Medical School, since 1998. Clough has extensive previous experience in various clinical and administrative roles, including having served as president and CEO of Deaconess Waltham Hospital, COO of WalWest Health Systems, Inc. and vice president for patient care at WalthamWeston Hospital & Medical Center. Clough began her career as a staff nurse and clinical nurse specialist at Massachusetts General Hospital.

“Jeanette’s keen insights and in-depth knowledge of the challenges facing hospitals and health systems have made her an invaluable leader in our field,” said AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack. “In addition to her many other contributions, her leadership of AHA’s Health Forum has helped advance the health of individuals and communities by providing organizations with the tools and educational resources they need to improve patient care.”

Clough’s AHA leadership and contributions began in 2006, and she has served continuously since then. Currently chair of Health Forum, she has helped guide that subsidiary of the AHA as a board member since 2012. In addition, she currently serves on the AHA Center for Health Innovation Leadership Council. She is a past member of the AHA Board of Trustees and chair of Regional Policy Board 1 and also chaired the Committee on Performance Improvement. In addition, as a member of the Task Force on Next Generation Physician engagement, she helped define and shape the AHA’s programs and approach to physician involvement. She also has served on the Circle of Life Award Committee, the Operations Committee, and the AHAPAC steering committee. Clough also served as chair of the Massachusetts Hospital Association in 2004-2005.

Clough earned her undergraduate degree in nursing from Boston University. She also holds a Masters’ Degree in Science from Boston College and received a Masters’ Degree in Health Administration and an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration from Suffolk University.
