Join me on this episode of Leadership Rounds with Consuelo Wilkins, M.D., vice president of health equity at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, based in Nashville.

At the beginning of the pandemic, Dr. Wilkins led a multidisciplinary team that developed an interactive dashboard to track racial, ethnic and language metrics for COVID-19 patients at VUMC and in the community. She and I talked about what hospitals can do to more intentionally and systematically identify health inequities and create strategies to respond. We also discussed how to build trust and communicate effectively about COVID-19 vaccination, particularly with underserved populations. Dr. Wilkins’ insights and advice are valuable and needed, not only now but for the future of health care.

I encourage you to participate in the AHA’s Accelerating Health Equity virtual conference, March 16–18, led by AHA Community Health Improvement and the Institute for Diversity and Health Equity.

Look for more of my conversations on trending topics with health care leaders from around the country, released once a month as part of the Chair File.
