AHA Board Chair Rod Hochman, M.D., and AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack this week continued to sound the alarm over health care workforce challenges as COVID-19 surges across the country.

"We're facing a national emergency," said Pollack, who discussed challenges, including shortages of nurses and other professionals, caregiver fatigue and increases in hospitalizations during interviews this week with Axios, NPR and Fox. Pollack also urged all Americans to get vaccinated and boosted, if eligible.

Hochman, who is CEO of Providence — a health system that serves seven Western states, said during an interview with Bloomberg Radio, “We are running the engine at full throttle and we have been doing that for a long time and the question is are we going to have enough workforce and capacity to deal with what is next.”
