Working Across Professions to Improve the Delivery of Emergency Care to Patients Throughout the Organization
In 2010, Southampton Hospital discovered that its process for checking and maintaining equipment/supplies on emergency code carts needed improvement. A workgroup was formed using the resources of the resuscitation committee and adding professionals across the organization who are involved in the process. The goal was to design a process that was as efficient and effective as it was seamless and simple. The team examined each step of the process, how long it took an individual to complete it, and whether each step added value to the process.
