Hospitals and health systems can play an important role in ensuring patients have trustworthy, accurate and scientifically sound information to help them make the best health care decisions for themselves and their loved ones. Combatting misinformation and arming hospitals and health systems with resources to do so is an important priority for the AHA.

March 12–18 is Patient Safety Awareness Week. While patient safety is a priority every day of the year for teams working at our nation’s hospitals and health systems, it’s important to acknowledge this event every year and advance discussions that inspire action to continue to improve patient safety.

The AHA Next Generation Leaders Fellowship focuses on developing leaders and empowering them to bring about real and lasting change in the hospital and health systems in which they serve. This annual fellowship is a unique opportunity to be paired with an executive-level mentor who will guide you through the planning and execution of a year-long capstone project at your hospital or health system. Consistent with trends in health care that continue to undergo substantial transformation, the AHA’s 2022 National Health Care Governance Survey report describes board structures, composition, culture, diversity and other practices that are transitioning in the changing environment. The report highlights some positive governance trends that are being made, some opportunities for improvement and it includes commentary from national governance experts.
