After a week’s delay to try to build consensus among Republicans — due in large part to concerns we have been raising about Medicaid cuts —  the House Energy & Commerce Committee could begin next week drafting its portion of the budget reconciliation bill as part of President Trump’s agenda to advance tax cuts that disproportionately benefit high income individuals.

UPDATED: Implications for Hospitals and Health Systems During a Government Shutdown

This is now the longest government shutdown on record, surpassing the previous record from 2018-2019, which lasted 35 days. Over the past 38 days, the Senate has voted 14 times on the House-passed continuing resolution (CR) to extend government funding and health care waivers until Nov. 21.

UPDATED: Implications for Hospitals and Health Systems During a Government Shutdown

Over the past 15 days, the Senate has voted eight times on the House-passed continuing resolution (CR) to extend government funding and health care waivers until Nov. 21. These votes have failed. While additional legislative activity is expected in the Senate throughout the week, there is no clear path forward at this time to re-open the government.
