Palliative Care Programs
In 2006, Ascension Health, the nation's largest Catholic and nonprofit health care system, chose seven pilots site with established palliative care programs to test improvements. The goal of the initiative was to spread leading strategies across the continuum of care throughout the system. An Ascension Health task force established volume, process and quality measures based on the eight domains of quality identified by the National Consensus Project's Clinical Practice Guidelines for Quality Palliative Care.
