Stormont-Vail HealthCare - HealthWise 55 Program
What is it?
Stormont-Vail's HealthWise 55 (HW55) program assists those 55 years of age and older. Health education and prevention are the main focus of this program. Educational services, Senior Suppers, Lunch Bunch, workshops, and clinics for blood pressure, medication, nutrition, and safe driving are all sponsored by HW55. Medicare and insurance consultation, an informative newsletter and an information and referral line are available to all members and caregivers. There is no charge for membership, and most services are offered free of charge. Senior Suppers are held at Stormont-Vail at a minimal charge, and speakers are generally scheduled. Lunch Bunch is held at various locations throughout the community at various nursing homes and the YWCA.
Who is it for?
Older adults and caregivers. Anyone over the age of 55 may become members, but anyone may attend the educational offerings and clinics.
Why do they do it?
Stormont-Vail is committed to our mission to improve the health of our community. We serve a large Medicare population and feel that this program is necessary to reach this age group in an attempt to improve health and prevent disease. It also allows us to make appropriate referrals to meet the many needs of seniors and caregivers in our community.
Impact
Senior Supper attendance averages 212 participants per month, and the Lunch Bunch program reaches about 13,600 annually. Approximately 250 people per year attend the Safe Driving class co-sponsored with AARP.
