Altru Health System - Community Care Program

The Community Care program offers primary and preventive care to those who would otherwise go without. Through Community Care, local residents have access to care when they need it and aren’t forced to treat the emergency department as a family physician – going only when untreated conditions worsen. Eligible patients are given three months of primary care from an Altru primary physician; existing patients may retain their primary providers, while new patients will be assigned a primary care provider. In addition to access to quality health care, patients are offered financial counseling regarding their medical bills by a compassionate and knowledgeable Altru patient advocate. After three months, patients can reapply to extend their access to the program.

Who is it for?

All Altru patients who are uninsured, lack the means to pay for their medical services and do not meet the criteria for city, state or government programs may be eligible for Altru’s Community Care.

Why do they do it?

Altru provides the Community Care program to reduce barriers and improve access to health care. Altru has always provided financial assistance; this program takes care of the front end so patients can see physicians on a regular basis when care is needed.
