Heart of America Medical Center - Physical Therapy Outreach
What is it?
The Physical Therapy Outreach program provides physical therapy services and wellness education to outlying rural communities and organizations. Due to their location, these communities have limited access to physical therapy services. The hospital works with area school systems, skilled nursing facilities, correctional facilities, basic care homes and high school athletic programs. It also provides education on general wellness, exercise, back safety and ergonomics to local businesses and schools as well as at various community functions.
Who is it for?
Any individual or organization in the region that does not have direct access to physical therapy services; the hospital’s outreach program extends up to 150 miles from the primary location in Rugby, dependent upon the need.
Why do they do it?
In a rural area, many people do not have access to adequate health care; specifically, physical therapy and rehabilitation services. The hospital’s goal is to provide therapy services to anyone who needs it. It works in partnership with physicians, providers, teachers and community leaders to help improve the quality of health care services provided to the region. The staff specializes in Rural Rehabilitative Physical Therapy and has expertise in many areas including pediatrics, geriatrics, outpatient therapy, neuro-rehabilitation, community wellness and sports medicine.
