What is it?

Trinity Medical Center developed a broad-based community partnership to provide an annual event each summer at the local high school before the start of the school year. The event’s mission is to promote the health, safety and well-being of all children. This event, which began in 1996, provides the following free activities and services:

  • Health screenings, including dental, vision, hearing, speech, head lice, ADHD, height/weight, asthma, scoliosis and foot
  • Bike helmet distribution and fitting
  • All vaccinations required for school attendance
  • Informational booths on topics related to child health and safety
  • Entertainment ranging from games played at informational booths to live musical performances to roving costumed characters
  • Refreshments

All screening information gathered at the event on a participation/consent form is shared with the local school health nurses (with parental permission) so that children don’t have to be re-screened when school starts.

Who is it for?

Infants through adolescents; there is no age or residency requirement.

Why do they do it?

Kids Day promotes children’s health and safety, and boosts vaccination rates.

Impact

The event provides free access to screenings that many families would otherwise be unable to receive.
