Berkshire Medical Center - Community Outreach Van

The mobile health outreach van is equipped with two state-of-the-art treatment and exam rooms and an educational resource center. It provides a confidential space for visitors to be screened for health risk factors (for example, blood pressure, cholesterol, or blood sugar) and/or appropriate referral to clinical and social service agencies.

Berkshire County residents.

Why do they do it?

The goal is to improve the overall health status of the community.

Impact

In 2012, the van visited 197 community health fairs, social service agencies, homeless shelters, and other venues – providing free health screenings, direct access mammogram appointments, health education materials, and referrals. The community outreach team saw more than 6,000 individuals in need of service, provided 3,400 blood pressure checks, delivered 60 presentations, and made 1,700 referrals to various health care services.
