To grow its own workforce and help Wrangell residents attain job skills, Wrangell Medical Center (WMC) provides onsite clinical training, health career mentoring and financial assistance for education.

To grow its own workforce and help Wrangell residents attain job skills, Wrangell Medical Center (WMC) provides onsite clinical training, health career mentoring and financial assistance for education.
Who is it for?
Wrangell area residents.
Why do they do it?
Wrangell is an isolated, economically depressed community with a population of 2,500 people. The only other way residents in this remote area would be able to obtain such training would be to move off the island for the training’s duration, an option that most residents cannot afford.
Impact
Over the past 19 years, WMC has trained and mentored more than 200 students, a vast majority of whom have been hired by the medical center. The cost savings to local students over the years amounts to more than $285,000.
