National Rural Health Day
National Rural Health Day is Thursday, November 20, 2025. Throughout the week of Nov. 17-21, the AHA, along with the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health, the National Rural Health Association, and hospitals and health systems across the country, will honor rural hospitals and the important work they do for their patients and communities.
National Rural Health Day Social Media Messages
Did you know rural hospitals provide $220 billion in economic activity annually? Rural hospitals support 1 in 12 jobs in the U.S. — but many are in danger of closing. Learn more about the federal support necessary to keep hospitals open and their workers employed: https://www.aha.org/system/files/media/file /2023/02/infographic-rural-hospitals-community-cornerstones-facing-perilous-threats-to-care-infographic.pdf
Workforce recruitment and retention is a persistent challenge for rural hospitals; 70% of primary care health professional shortage areas are in rural parts of the U.S. At @ahahospitals, we encourage Congress to pass legislation that supports workforce development, like bills that increase the number of Medicare-funded residency slots to expand training opportunities in rural settings. https://www.aha.org/rural-advocacy-agenda
Share the National Rural Health Day Toolkit
We encourage all our rural members to share their stories. Visit the National Rural Health Day toolkit landing page for more information, including AHA social media handles, hashtags, and more customizable social media posts.
