Ian Morrison to Receive 2018 AHA Board of Trustees Award
WASHINGTON (July 12, 2018) – The American Hospital Association (AHA) today announced that Ian Morrison, author and futurist, will be awarded its 2018 Board of Trustees Award. The award is presented to individuals or groups who have made substantial and noteworthy contributions to the work of the AHA. Morrison will receive the award during a ceremony at the AHA Leadership Summit on Thursday, July 26 in San Diego.
Morrison has been the moderator and facilitator of the AHA Leadership Summit for approximately 20 years. He is an internationally known author, consultant and speaker specializing in long-term forecasting and planning with a particular emphasis on health care. Morrison has worked with more than 100 Fortune 500 companies in health care, manufacturing, information technology and financial services. He is the author of Healthcare in the New Millennium: Vision, Values and Leadership and The Second Curve - Managing the Velocity of Change, a New York Times Business Bestseller and Business Week Bestseller.
“Ian Morrison’s deep insights and keen observations on health care have helped enrich the AHA, America’s hospitals and health systems and the entire health care field,” said AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack. “An author and speaker, Ian has translated information into knowledge for countless hospital and health systems leaders, and we have all benefited from his experience and innovative way of thinking.”
Morrison is the past director of the AHA’s Health Research and Educational Trust (HRET), the research and education arm of the association. In addition, he is a past director of the Center for Health Design and a past director and chair of the California Health Care Foundation. He is currently a board member of the Martin Luther King Community Hospital in Los Angeles and serves on the Founder’s Council of United States of Care, an organization with the mission to “ensure that every single American has access to quality, affordable health care regardless of health status, social need, or income.”
Morrison served as president of IFTF from 1990 to 1996, during which he was responsible for leading the organization's growth and success. He is a founding partner of Strategic Health
Perspectives, an ongoing forecasting service for clients in the health care sector, along with joint Harris Interactive and the Harvard University, School of Public Health, Department of Health Policy and Management. He holds an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in urban studies from the University of British Columbia and an M.A. in geography from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.
