About Vail Health

Vail Health is a nonprofit community health care system based in Vail, Colorado, anchored by a 56-bed hospital that provides care to patients from Eagle County and beyond. Since its founding in 1965, Vail Health has grown from a single clinic with 25 physicians to a critically important network with more than 1,800 employees, 460 credentialed physicians and about 90 volunteers.

Improving Access to Behavioral Health in the Community

Recognizing a dire need for behavioral health care throughout the rural community, Vail Health leaders established a full continuum of behavioral health services, including a new inpatient behavioral health hospital. This small mountain town was experiencing high rates of isolation and suicide, underscoring the need to bring high-quality behavioral health care to the area.

To increase access to behavioral health services, Vail Health opened the Precourt Healing Center in May 2025. The 28-bed inpatient behavioral health facility is designed to be a space of restoration, dignity and personalized healing. Its integrated approach prioritizes both mental and physical health, recognizing their vital connection. At the Precourt Healing Center, patients enjoy healthy meals, physical activity in therapeutic gyms and outdoor courtyards, and expressive outlets such as art, music and movement therapy.

Program Results

The results are impressive. Vail Health’s inpatient behavioral health facility is the only facility of its kind between Denver and Salt Lake City, Utah. The Precourt Healing Center is vital not just for the residents of Eagle County. It empowers people across the entire Western Slope of Colorado to receive the care they need closer to home. Not only does this improve access, but it also empowers friends and families to visit patients, which is vital to providing a strong support network.
