Celebrating Diversity
April is National Minority Health Month. Launched in April 2001 by the National Minority Health Foundation, National Minority Health Month addresses the needs of African Americans, Asians, Hispanics, Native Americans and other minority populations. To commemorate the occasion, Equity of Care is featuring videos, case studies, reports and best practices—all targeted to assist health care leaders in promoting equitable care for all. Equity of Care is the national collaborative effort of the American College of Healthcare Executives, American Hospital Association, Association of American Medical Colleges, Catholic Health Association of the United States and National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems. These organizations have issued a call to action to eliminate health care disparities by increasing the collection of race, ethnicity and language preference data; increasing cultural competency training for clinicians and support staff; and increasing diversity in governance and management.
