Accelerating Care Delivery Transformation
The winds of change in health care are swirling around us: shifting patient and workforce demographics, evolving payment models, varying political and regulatory pressures, and fluctuating economic conditions. These challenges call for hospitals and health care systems to accelerate organizational transformation to provide better, more efficient, integrated care for patients and communities, while assuming more financial risk and increased accountability. The AHA 2011 Committee on Performance Improvement report, “Hospitals and Care Systems of the Future,” outlined 10 must-do strategies for hospital and health care systems to succeed in a rapidly changing environment. A guide from the AHA 2013 Committee on Research, “Your Hospital's Path to the Second Curve,” builds on the CPI report by describing organizational capabilities and listing strategic questions for leaders to consider in determining one or more paths toward transformation. These paths are redefine, partner, integrate, experiment and specialize. Where is your organization on its transformational journey?
