UPDATED: Implications for Hospitals and Health Systems During a Government Shutdown

This is now the longest government shutdown on record, surpassing the previous record from 2018-2019, which lasted 35 days. Over the past 38 days, the Senate has voted 14 times on the House-passed continuing resolution (CR) to extend government funding and health care waivers until Nov. 21.

Senate Deal Reached to End Government Shutdown

Over the weekend, senators reached a deal to reopen the government. The agreement includes a three-bill, full-year spending package for 1) the Department of Agriculture and Food and Drug Administration, 2) the Legislative Branch, and 3) the Defense Department construction projects and the Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as a short-term continuing resolution to extend funding for the rest of the government until Jan. 30, 2026.

UPDATED: Implications for Hospitals and Health Systems During a Government Shutdown

Over the past 15 days, the Senate has voted eight times on the House-passed continuing resolution (CR) to extend government funding and health care waivers until Nov. 21. These votes have failed. While additional legislative activity is expected in the Senate throughout the week, there is no clear path forward at this time to re-open the government.
